New: WENZEL CT Workstations

New CT Solution for Industrial Applications

WENZEL Unveils Integrated Computed Tomography Workstation

At the CONTROL exhibition (5th to 8th May 2009 in Stuttgart / Germany) WENZEL Group presents a new inspection product. For the first time WENZEL presents the integrated Computed Tomography Workstation for industrial applications. This new development from WENZEL Group is from its subsidiary WENZEL Volumetrik (Balingen in Germany). With this new solution contactless 3D measurements of inner and outer structures can be performed. This enables non-destructive and timesaving inspection for many industry processes such as quality control, test engineering and reverse engineering.

„The CONTROL show as the leading international trade fair for quality assurance is the perfect platform for the premiere of our new Computer Tomograph”, explains Dr. Martin Simon, Director of WENZEL Volumetrik GmbH. „WENZEL offers a full product range of this new high-technology: the manufacture of the systems, software, services, training and consultation.“

With the new integrated Computed Tomography Workstation WENZEL sets a new standard in price-performance-ratio and makes the system affordable also for small and medium-sized companies. The integration of ultra-precise mechanical engineering from WENZEL, the high image quality detectors and the CT-Software from WENZEL Volumetric guarantees the highest quality of the new Computer Tomography solution.

Various Software Solutions

Another highlight of the system is the performance and operability through the combination of various software-applications. The control software for optimal acquisition of projections pictures and the reconstruction software for the exact evaluation of 3D voxel data are new developments. Data analysis is realized with the proven software QUARTIS from WENZEL Metromec and PointMaster from WENZEL Knotenpunkt.

The data which is acquired through the Computer Tomograph can be metrologically evaluated by the measuring software METROSOFT QUARTIS. The holistic availability of the part surfaces enables the analysis of all contours and areas. This includes especially the inner structures which can be captured in a non-destructive and contact-free way. Moreover the high resolution offers a maximum of security for the evaluation of the measuring results. This procedure provides a considerable time saving potential by the sampling of components.

The Software PointMaster from WENZEL Knotenpunkt offers excellent options particularly in the field of Reverse Engineering, for the correction of tool shapes and for the site-specific analysis against CAD models. With the help of one of the best tools for surfaces generation, accurate free form surfaces can be generated and processed from CT data. The functions for the iterative compensation of material depletion from tools for injection moulding and casting moulds enables a significant reduction of the development and sampling process and reduce the costs considerably. The proven functionality of PointMaster for the normal-actual value comparison against 3D CAD models with colour illustration can also be used with the Computer Tomograph.

In addition, interfaces to the major capturing software packages such as VGStudio MAX 2.0 are available.

Ideal Cooperation with Coordinate Measuring Method

The solution is perfect for the inspection and measurement of small and medium parts, manufactured from plastics, composites, ceramics, aluminium or magnesium. Also planed for the future are systems from WENZEL Volumetrik for large parts.

Sales of the new system and technology is inherited by the corporate sales from the WENZEL Group. Frank Wenzel, Managing Director of the WENZEL Group sees the introduction of the new Computer Tomograph as an ideal supplement to the coordinate measuring method: „According to the case of application and the size and consistency of the work piece our customers can decide on their ideal solution. With the CT-Technology for example we press forward into new dimensions for first article inspections of components.”
